My research indicated that this tradition originated in Nigerian and used by the Yoruba people. However, this ritual has been used far and wide reaching Haiti, the islands, as well as the states.

By participating in this ritual, you will demonstrate your ability to stand fast in your relationship no matter what emotions may surface.

You will taste the elements of sourness, bitterness, hotness, and sweetness; which will symbolically show that you will be able to get through the hard times in life and at the end enjoy the sweetness of your marriage.
