Lauren + Karema dc wedding with Rev. SJ Burns

We Love Celebrating All Weddings!

Many couples come to the hottest place in the United States, “Washington DC” to tie the knot.  The wedding industry in DC is inviting to all couples, regardless of their sexual orientation or ethnicity.  Love is love, and your happiness is what matters to us.

At The DC Marriage Knot, we work hard to ensure that all DC same sex marriages are special.  From the wedding location to the vows you speak will highlight the moment you and your family will treasure for years to come.

DC Vendor Connections

We collaborate with some of the best wedding planners in the nation’s capital. If you’re planning a signature event, we’ll connect you with top-tier professionals to ensure your D.C. wedding is effortless and stress-free.

At The DC Marriage Knot, we’re not a wedding planning service. However, as an add-on service, we’re happy to assist with obtaining location permits, scouting wedding locations, and recommending photographers and videographers. Our goal is to help you enjoy your time in D.C. with as little stress as possible.

We highly recommend hiring a wedding planner to handle the logistics of your big day, including venues, vendors, and all the little details that make your wedding truly special. Whether you’re planning from afar or locally, a skilled planner can be an invaluable asset in bringing your dream wedding to life.

Locations

A small ceremony can be held in the comfort of your home, by the DC waterfront, your hotel suite, or some place you find special.

Marriage Licenses

Obtaining your DC marriage license is your responsibility, but at The DC Marriage Knot, we’re here to help! Our step-by-step guide makes it easy for you to understand and navigate the process of securing your license.

If you prefer to marry in Maryland or Virginia, that’s perfectly fine too. Just remember to obtain your marriage license from the jurisdiction where you plan to say “I do.”

We are proud to have been at the forefront of providing ceremony services for same-gender-loving couples. Since 2004, our company has actively supported and participated in the movement for marriage equality. We were thrilled when marriage equality was passed by the U.S. Supreme Court. Today, we celebrate marriage for all and honor every love story that comes our way!

Wedding Officiant for Your Gay Marriage

Not everyone knows about our lead minister, Rev. Starlene Joyner Burns, and her dedication to the fight for marriage equality. If you’d like to learn more about her work, check out these links: Equality Illinois, where she’s recognized as a “National Religious Leader Supporting Marriage Equality”; BmoreInclusives; Washington Post; MD Faith Equality Channel; and Washington Blade.

If Rev. Burns’ experience and advocacy feel like the right fit for your wedding, don’t hesitate to call. She’s passionate about marriage equality and loves working with couples who value her dedication to this cause.

Some people call same-sex unions gay weddings, gay marriages, or civil unions. But at its core, your ceremony is just a marriage—no labels needed. It can be civil, religious, or spiritual, whatever feels most meaningful to you. This is your special day, and your ceremony should reflect your beliefs, your love, and your vision.
